How BHS Delivers Warehouse Lifts With Fast Lead Times
Growing your warehousing business can be a heavy lift — literally. A big new contract may require the installation (or more consistent usage) of a mezzanine or upper story, along with the lifting systems that move goods between these levels.
If your goal is quick onboarding, you can’t wait for your vertical material handling system to catch up. You need a warehouse lift as soon as possible.
For reasons we’ll explain shortly, that might be a challenge. Luckily, Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors (VRC) from BHS, Inc. provide the solution. We offer a new approach that ensures short lead times and simple installation, so you can start lifting without delay.
If you need to boost throughput in a multi-level material handling system quickly, choose Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors from BHS. Here’s how we’ve redesigned the VRC fulfillment process for speed, safety, and faster ROIs than ever before — and why it matters.
The Challenge of Quick Delivery for Warehouse Lifts
As we’ve written elsewhere, a Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor is a lot more cost-effective than competing warehouse lift technologies, like freight elevators. But that doesn’t mean these lifts have always been quick or easy to install.
That’s because traditional VRCs were all custom manufacturing projects. Every facility has different ceiling heights, floor layouts, and access points. Every operation needs different load capacities. And every material handling system requires a specific form of integration, whether that’s compatibility with horizontal conveyors, a specific load pattern, or an automated hand-off of some kind.
The sales process for many VRCs essentially requires you to order a fully custom design. That takes a lot of time, as the manufacturer’s engineers build your one-of-a-kind lift.
And that’s only the beginning of the process. Once your VRC is designed and manufactured, you still have to install it. Typical VRCs are shipped in pieces, which you must build and install on site. That leads to further delays.
At BHS, Inc., we do a lot of custom manufacturing. If you need a specialty warehouse lift, we’d be happy to follow a process like the one we just outlined, building you the perfect solution from the ground up.
But if quick deployment is your priority, BHS has the VRC you need, too.
Speeding Up Deployment With Standard-Model VRCs From BHS
At BHS, Inc., we looked at the most common use cases for Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors, and built two standard models that will fit into the vast majority of facilities. These standard models remove the custom-design stage from the fulfillment process.
That could save you weeks or even months. Our standard VRCs also solve the installation challenge. One model — the Hydraulic Cantilever Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor (VRC-HC) — even ships fully assembled. All you have to do is secure it in place, connect power, and start lifting.
There’s no single standard height requirement for warehouse lifts, but there is a standard range, and our two models of VRCs are designed to fit within that range:
- The Hydraulic Cantilever Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor (VRC-HC) is ideal for mezzanines, with up to 15 feet of material handling height. Two-post cantilever design saves space, while travel speeds of up to 21 feet (6.4 meters) per minute keep the goods moving. Choose your carriage size and lifting capacity (3,000 or 6,000 pounds [1,361 or 2,722 kilograms]).
- The Mechanical Straddle Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor (VRC-MS) offers up to 25 feet of vertical travel, with an even faster lift mechanism that goes up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) per minute.
Both models include standard safety features, including mechanical interlocks and position sensors that keep the carriage still until the gates are closed. Proximity sensors also prevent dangerous gaps between the floor and the carriage, while drop prevention mechanisms avoid accidents.
