Anti-Theft Package Boxes: 3 Features to Look For

If your business accepts deliveries of any kind, theft is a big concern. According to the 2025 Supply Chain Risk Report from Verisk CargoNet, cargo theft losses across the United States and Canada surged 60% in 2025, reaching nearly $725 million.

Criminals are increasingly targeting high-value shipments — including copper, computers, and tools — at warehouses and distribution centers. After-hours shipments are high-margin targets.

An industrial anti-theft package box provides a dedicated, secure point of entry that limits risks without requiring a staff member to be present for every delivery. But the level of protection depends entirely on the hardware's design.

Here are three features our engineers prioritized when designing the Parcel Locker Drop Box.

Parcel Locker Drop Box

1. A Tumbler-Style Delivery Door

Standard drop boxes are vulnerable to fishing, where a thief uses a tool or their hand to reach through the intake slot and pull out deposited items. A high-quality anti-theft package box should have a mechanical barrier that prevents fishing.

The BHS Parcel Locker Drop Box (DB-P) uses a tumbler-style delivery compartment that functions as a rotating baffle. When a delivery driver pulls the handle to open the intake door, the internal compartment rotates to create a physical wall between the intake opening and the storage bin below.

Once the package is placed inside and the door is closed, the compartment rotates back to the bottom position — allowing the item to drop into the locked collection area. The storage bin remains inaccessible from the outside at all times, even when the intake door is wide open.

2. Heavy-Duty Welded Steel Frame

Physical durability is the first line of defense. Many consumer-grade lockboxes rely on thin-gauge sheet metal held together by rivets or bolts — but thieves are aware of those weak points. If they bring basic tools like crowbars or drills, they can quickly gain access.

BHS’s anti-theft package box features a fully welded steel frame that eliminates external seams. Thieves can’t find a point of leverage to pry the unit apart.

The DB-P also includes pre-drilled anchor holes in the footpads. Bolting the unit directly to a concrete pad ensures the entire locker cannot be loaded onto a truck and hauled away. A durable powder-coat finish also protects the steel from corrosion and chemical exposure — ensuring the locking mechanisms and hinges operate smoothly for years, even in outdoor environments.

3. Configurable Locking Systems

Of course, for a parcel delivery box to be useful, it can’t just be secure — it needs to be accessible. Our anti-theft package box offers a choice between traditional physical security and modern digital access.

  • Keyed Locks: Mechanical locks are ideal for internal use or for dedicated routes where only a small team needs access to the collection bin. They're simple, reliable, and require no power source.
  • Smart and IIoT Locks: For facilities offering 24/7 customer pickups, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) locks are the superior choice. Managers can generate one-time passcodes and offer multiple access methods, including mobile app usage and proximity access.

Digital locks also provide detailed, timestamped audit logs, allowing you to track exactly when a package was deposited or retrieved. That’s overkill for certain applications, but if you’re dealing with high-value inventory, audit logs can be essential.

Products to Consider

In addition to the Parcel Locker Drop Box, BHS engineers a range of cabinets to help you manage deliverables and store materials securely on-site.

Parcel Locker Drop Box (DB-P)

Fully welded, all steel construction along with theft deterrent features make each package drop box a secure, worry-free deposit bin. When the door is closed, the deposited contents are gravity-fed into the protected compartment.

Security Carts (SEC)

Mobile units with expanded steel mesh walls allow for full visibility of contents while keeping them behind lockable doors. Carts of this type are ideal for transporting high-value tools across a job site while maintaining a clear chain of custody.

Mobile Storage Cabinets (SEC-CS)

Solid-steel cabinets offer total privacy and security for sensitive equipment. Featuring a clamshell design, the SEC-CS opens into a 10-foot-long shelving unit and rolls easily on eight high-capacity casters.

BIM Carts (BIM)

Securing electronics or computer equipment on the warehouse floor requires specialized protection. BIM carts provide rugged steel enclosures and integrated power strips for charging devices while they're locked away from unauthorized users.

Security Drop Box (DB)

For smaller logistics needs, such as key drops or mail collection, this compact drop box offers the same heavy-duty welded construction as the larger parcel lockers. The DB model is an efficient way to manage small-scale assets without sacrificing security.

Secure Material Handling for Packages, Materials, and More

Investing in a purpose-built anti-theft package box stops thieves in their tracks — and it also streamlines your entire receiving process. With BHS, you can build a more resilient supply chain and protect valuable materials and equipment.
