BHS, Inc. Upgrades Key Component of Forklift Battery Lifting Beams

June 29, 2018 — St. Louis, MO — BHS, Inc., a leading provider of forklift battery handling solutions and warehouse equipment, is improving a crucial component in their established line of forklift Battery Lifting Beams. The swing gate hook assembly, which secures batteries to the beam for safe lifting, will be replaced by load-lok hooks beginning July 1.

"The lock latch works better and is easier to use than the old style," said Melissa Bowen of BHS Marketing. "Our engineers are always looking for ways to improve existing products, so when they found a better hook, they moved quickly to make the change." BLB-6000-LLH

Battery Lifting Beams attach to Gantry Cranes to create a safer, more stable grip on forklift batteries in vertical-extraction applications. Models from BHS are made of non-conductive hardwood, with a maximum weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. They're available with a wide variety of attachment hooks to match the profiles of major forklift battery brands. At this time, only the swing gate hooks are being replaced.

"This was an instance where we saw something that worked better and fit our product perfectly, so we went for it," said Bowen.

Battery Lifting Beams from BHS are available in two sizes and with a range of adjustable and fixed hook positions. Both old and new designs meet all OSHA and ANSI standards, but users prefer the new hooks, Bowen said.

"The old hooks are perfectly safe and effective," she said. "But the new ones clip on faster, with less effort. When you're changing batteries for the whole fleet, a little improvement like that can make a huge difference."
