BHS, Inc. Spool Winding Trolley Upgrades Cut-to-Length Wire Distribution

June 4, 2019 — St. Louis, MO — BHS, Inc., a leading manufacturer of material handling equipment for the electrical industry, recently released a new type of spooling and reeling machine that significantly cuts time and labor costs for cable, wire, and flexible material distribution. The Spool Winding Trolley (SWT) differs from most respooling machines in that it fills distribution reels directly, without removing them from existing jack stands. Adjustable-height roller arms terminate in an overhead rim drive system that spins take-up reels wherever they stand. “Traditionally, respooling a cut-to-length order of cable was a multi-step process,” said Melissa Bowen of BHS Marketing. “You had to take the delivery reel off the jack stand, remove the shaft, somehow get it… Continue Reading

BHS, Inc. Celebrates 40 Years of Service in 2019

Over the past 40 years, BHS, Inc. has grown from a regional Midwestern producer of industrial/traction battery stands to a global material-handling powerhouse. As the company celebrates its 40th anniversary, here’s a look back on how that growth occurred — and how BHS leadership plans to keep it going. The Origins of BHS, Inc. in the Industrial Battery Industry Marty Huber got his start as a dealer with an inventory of industrial batteries and a single employee. His desk was an unmounted door straddling two 55-gallon drums. “It was makeshift,” Marty said. Huber faced challenges in those early days. Interest rates hovered north of 20 percent, for one thing. And Huber was young for the industry, still in his early… Continue Reading

Spool Winding Trolley from BHS, Inc. Fills Reels, Measures Cable Simultaneously

The Spool Winding Trolley (SWT) is a free-rolling unit that fits over BHS Parallel Reel Payouts or other uptake-reel systems. Once in place, the Trolley’s DC-powered motor smoothly transports cable from feed reels to any number of take-up reels. The result is a spool-winder that improves productivity while removing ergonomic hazards as workers load cable. Meanwhile, a triple-wide encoder reel accurately counts each linear foot of cable for exact measurements. “There can be a lot of waste when you fill a cable order,” said… Continue Reading
